What is DATEX II?
DATEX II is a European standard for exchanging road traffic and travel information between road operators, traffic centres, service providers and others. It is standardised by CEN and uses XML. Documentation and the community are at datex2.eu.
What does it cover?
- Traffic situations: incidents, accidents and disruptions.
- Roadworks and road closures.
- Traffic conditions such as flow, speed and travel times.
- Information about parking and other travel-related services.
How it is used in MMTIS
For the road part of a multimodal trip, DATEX II is the European standard for traffic and travel data. Road data can be published through National Access Points, next to public transport data in NeTEx and SIRI. See all data formats.
Publications and profiles
DATEX II data is exchanged as publications of different kinds, such as situation publications for incidents and roadworks, and measured data for traffic flow and speeds. As with other standards, countries often agree on profiles that narrow the options. Check your National Access Point for what it expects. See also the ITS Directive and its delegated regulations on traffic information.
Static and dynamic road data
Road data includes both static information, such as the road network and permanent restrictions, and dynamic information, such as current incidents and traffic conditions.
