# MMTIS > MMTIS (Multimodal Travel Information Services) is the EU framework, set out in Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926, that makes travel and traffic data available so journey planners can combine modes of transport such as train, bus, tram, ferry, bike sharing and car sharing into one trip. This is an independent website, not affiliated with or connected to any of the organisations or projects it mentions. It is an informal introduction, not legal advice. Check the official texts for authoritative requirements. ## Key facts - Legal basis: Delegated Regulation (EU) 2017/1926, supplementing ITS Directive 2010/40/EU. The ITS Directive was revised by Directive (EU) 2023/2661. - Each EU member state runs a National Access Point (NAP) where transport data is published and discovered. - Data covers static data (stops, lines, timetables, fares, networks), dynamic data (delays, disruptions, shared vehicle availability) and metadata. - Main data formats: NeTEx (timetables, networks, fares), SIRI (real-time), Transmodel (reference model), GTFS and GTFS Realtime, GBFS (shared mobility), DATEX II (road traffic). - Requirements were phased in between 2019 and 2023. ## Pages - [MMTIS explained](https://mmtis.org/): overview, actors, data formats, National Access Points, timeline, FAQ, dictionary and links. - [What is MMTIS?](https://mmtis.org/what-is-mmtis/): The EU framework for open, shareable travel data. - [The regulation](https://mmtis.org/regulation-2017-1926/): The legal text behind MMTIS, explained in plain English. - [National Access Points](https://mmtis.org/national-access-points/): The national portals where transport data is published and found. - [Data formats](https://mmtis.org/data-formats/): NeTEx, SIRI, GTFS, GBFS and DATEX II compared. - [NeTEx](https://mmtis.org/netex/): The European standard for timetables, networks and fares. - [SIRI](https://mmtis.org/siri/): The European standard for real-time public transport data. - [GTFS](https://mmtis.org/gtfs/): The widely used open timetable format and its real-time extension. - [GBFS](https://mmtis.org/gbfs/): The open format for shared bikes, scooters and cars. - [DATEX II](https://mmtis.org/datex-ii/): The European standard for road traffic and travel data. - [Static and dynamic data](https://mmtis.org/static-and-dynamic-data/): Timetables vs delays, and the metadata that describes them. - [Who is involved](https://mmtis.org/who-is-involved/): EU bodies, standards communities, data providers and data users. - [Timeline](https://mmtis.org/timeline/): From the ITS Directive in 2010 to the 2023 revision. - [FAQ](https://mmtis.org/faq/): Short answers to common questions. - [ITS Directive](https://mmtis.org/its-directive/): The directive that MMTIS builds on, and its 2023 revision. - [Why MMTIS matters](https://mmtis.org/why-mmtis-matters/): Benefits for travellers, operators, authorities and developers. - [Mobility as a Service](https://mmtis.org/mobility-as-a-service/): How MaaS relates to multimodal travel information. - [Journey planners](https://mmtis.org/journey-planners/): How planners turn open data into a multimodal trip. - [How to publish data](https://mmtis.org/how-to-publish-transport-data/): A step-by-step guide for data owners. - [How to use data](https://mmtis.org/how-to-use-transport-data/): A practical guide for developers and researchers. - [Metadata and licences](https://mmtis.org/metadata-and-licences/): What to describe, and how licences affect reuse. - [Transmodel](https://mmtis.org/transmodel/): The reference data model behind NeTEx and SIRI. - [NeTEx vs GTFS](https://mmtis.org/netex-vs-gtfs/): Comparing the two main timetable formats. - [SIRI vs GTFS Realtime](https://mmtis.org/siri-vs-gtfs-realtime/): Comparing the two main real-time formats. - [Multimodal travel](https://mmtis.org/multimodal-travel/): Modes, transfers and the first and last mile. - [Norway](https://mmtis.org/norway/): Entur, Transportportal and where to find Norwegian data. ## Official sources - [Regulation 2017/1926](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg_del/2017/1926/oj) - [ITS Directive 2010/40/EU](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2010/40/oj) - [Directive (EU) 2023/2661](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dir/2023/2661/oj) - [EU National Access Points](https://transport.ec.europa.eu/transport-themes/smart-mobility/road/its-directive-and-action-plan/national-access-points_en) - [NAPCORE](https://napcore.eu)
